Enormous Guide Update, Tons of Changes

    Hey!

Alright, the Firelands waypoint arrow is fixed and working in
this version. Shouldn't have any more problems with that.
We're now going to focus on fixing the Talent Advisor for the
mysteriously broken Paladin talent, and Hunter pets.

For now, we're releasing a massive list of changes/improvements
we've been working on for a while. :-)

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    Guide Change Log:
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Guide Viewer:

    * Guides can now have multiple, dynamic paths - don't be
surprised to go from step 10 to step 35 and even back to 23.
Guide flow changes are indicated by a new silvery arrow icon
next to a line in your current step.

    * Step navigation now supports history. This changes how the
prev/next buttons work: Back button now retraces steps back,
in the order they were visited. Forward button now skips to
    the next step.

    * Shift-clicking the prev/next buttons causes skips of 10 steps
at a time. Shift-mousewheeling the step number also works.

    * Advanced feature: Ctrl-alt-clicking the prev/next buttons
causes skipping to the exactly next/previous step in the guide,
ignoring history. Perhaps useful to explore guides in a
    non-linear way. Handle with care.

    * Added dynamic flight calculation. Some steps will now be able
to tell you to use your nearest flightmaster, wherever you are.

    * New convenience option: "Take flights automatically". When
talking to a flightmaster, during a "fly to" step, causes the
flight to be taken automatically. No more "where's that
    destination... okay, clicking... damn, misclicked!"

    * Some step objectives can now be optional. Don't be surprised
to see a step complete even with a still incomplete objective.

    * New objective type: "click". Some steps will have a "click
here to proceed" line, which will complete the step when
    clicked. Captain Obvious out.

    * "Magic Key" introduced: spam it to target mobs/NPCs and to
interact with them! (Still in testing.) Set your keybinding
in the extra options screen. You will see the Magic Key next
to NPC lines in guide steps.

    * Fix: Creature Viewer will no longer display random creatures
    in item-related steps.

    * Fix: Arrows/Cloqwerk and Arrows/3D-Gem will no longer show
errors when ZGV fails to load.

    * Fix: now correctly displaying the first waypoint in a series
    of gotos.

    * Plural for Lotus is now Lotuses. Well, Romans can keep their
    loti... for now.

    * Manual waypoints are now properly removed when skipping steps.

    * Map markers are now 50% their size when viewed on an overworld map.

    * Map markers are no longer clickable when viewing an overworld
map, and thus don't interfere with clicking their zone.

    * Right-clicking on collect/buy/get lines no longer has an
option to "view creature" in the menu.

    * Guides once ignored in popup will not pop again.

    * Resetting the options profile shouldn't cause an error anymore.

    * Astrolabe updated to now work with map IDs. Supports multi-floor
maps (partially). Also, modified to increase recalculation
frequency. Hopefully it won't be a big FPS hit.

    * A step that's invalid (failed a racial/class/scripted validity
condition) is considered complete, if one were ever to land on
one. This helps to clear out of such steps when accidentally
    arriving on them.

    * Firelands waypoint arrow fixed - for real.

I... uh... I... WOW!!! That guide update is... WOW. I'm impressed.

I'm really looking forward to try out the magic key feature, as well as the dynamic paths thing.

Can you give a quick example of how that works? The update point above is very brief and I'm curious how the dynamic paths works.

EDIT: Magic key doesn't seem to do anything. I have set it but it's doing nothing when I spam it.

The Magic Key (easily dubbed Spam Key, too...) should - at first press - target the current step's NPC or monster. After targeting - at second press - it should run and talk to the NPC, or attack a monster. It's still experimental, though - all feedback is welcome.

Dynamic paths is "just" the guide becoming non-linear. Certain conditions or user choices can now decide how the guide progresses - some users might play through steps 1-100, while for some at step 20 the guide might send them on an errand to step 101, to be sent back from 110 to 30. Think "Choose Your Own Adventure"/"Time Machine" books.

              Wow!

The guide was fantastic before - and you guys make it better? You already had my loyalty - now I'm just in awe. How many people take something that people love and keep working on it to make it even better? You guys rock.

There's other guides, but this one wins. And it keeps on getting better!

This sounds fantastic! For various reasons I am reinstalling WoW right now and I can't wait to test it.

The "Magic Key" feature as I understand it: I have a suggestion for perhaps using it to set a raid icon above the target (like a skull above a mob you need to kill). That could make them easier to locate in the world.

If you target something you already get a target symbol on the minimap. This was introduced with WoW patch 4.1 I think.

I've tried spamming it but it doesn't seem to do anything.

I tried on both a normal "Kill this" step and a "turn in" step. I was in range of the target both times.

Is their any way that we could possibly have a feature to disable the changing of steps? I prefer to stick with a linar guide for the simple fact it makes me more comfortable, and i'm worried my leveling speed will decrease because of this.

Hmm, what exactly do you mean when you say "disable the changing of steps"? I don't think I understand what you're asking. Thanks.
