I am trying to figure out what to do with these thing as I now have about 20. I was told I can use them to buy heirlooms and thought that would be good to get the +XP items but in Dalaran the guy sells those for something else ... forget the name.
Anyone got a good reference on what I can do with these things?

Here's a list of what you can buy with them along with other important info.

The vendor is in Wintergrasp which is a PvP zone. Just make sure that your side (Alliance or Horde) has control and you can fly in, buy your item(s) and fly out.
Hope this helps!

The heirloom items that can be bought with Stone Keeper Shards seems to be geared more towards pvp though, with all that resilence...?

Yep. I noticed that too when my guildmate escorted me in a couple of months ago. My impression is that you get the shoulders (all armor types) for the mob and quest XP bump.
Perhaps that's changed in 3.3?
Thanks

Ahhh, well that explains why I can't find a vendor within Dalaran for these things. Thanks for the link!
The shoulders look good but 200 shards??? That will be a while at my rate
There does appear to be a laundry list of JC recipes that are within my reach but I am only ~350 and they all require 390. Guess I'll keep an eye on the AH and if those gems sell for nice gold I'll buy em

When is the earliest a toon can start to farm for shards, and where can they start to farm?

If your faction controls wintergrasp you get them by defeating dungeon bosses (all WotLK instances) or by completing Wintergrasp PvP quests.
For a complete list of who drops them click here (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=43228#dropped-by:0-2-9-8+1)

So this is all available to a lvl 74, or do you need to be 80? I know for heroic you need to be 80, but I have started reg dungeons for gear.
If I can start working for shards at 74 I would be thrilled.
thanks for reply.

Yep, 74 will work. I also found that the drop rate is as follows. If your faction controls Wintergrasp...
Normal Dungeons = 1 per boss at level. 2-3 if the boss is above your level.
Heroic Dungeons = 4 per boss
Thanks

A little late to reply, but I have a lot of experience with Shards :-D. Shards are extremely easy to obtain, especially if you're level 80. I have every shoulder heirloom available from that vendor, and a few of the weapons/trinkets. When you win a Wintergrasp, you will get a buff that allows you to obtain shards while doing dungeons. If you need Triumph marks, then run randoms (if you're a tank, you get insta-queues ;-)), however if you just want shards, run regular ToC over and over with guildies who are willing to help, and you'll get quite a few. The weekly Wintergrasp quests are a great way to obtain shards as well.
Then again, after buying everything I could with Wintergrasp Marks of Honor, I still have 200+ Marks. I <3 Wintergrasp :-D.

Great point Silver. Thanks for the additional info.
