im trying to install the guides, but when i do the auto install/even the manual install, i get everything EXCEPT the guide itself (in otherwords, i got cartographer, the viewer, etc). Everything loads up in game fine, just when i start it up, the window pops up and asks for a guide to be loaded or whatever. Any ideas?

Did you log into the members area and use the download links there or links from a different page?

Also look in your manual install zip, you should see in the ZygorGuidesViewer\Guides directory a file named either ZygorGuidesAlliance.lua or ZygorGuidesHorde.lua (depending on which guide it is). If you don't see this in the zip file you downloaded then it's a bad file and try re-downloading it.

Go in your WoW AddOns folder and delete all folders with Cartographer or Zygor in their name. Now, install our new guides again, this should work for you.

I just deleted all of my old Cartograhper and Zygor files and reinstalled the Horde guide and Alliance guide. The Horde guide works - but I cannot get the Allaince guide to load when the game starts.

Go to this folder on your computer:

World of Warcraft \ Interface \ AddOns \ ZygorGuidesViewer \ Guides

Inside that Guides folder, do you see "ZygorGuidesAlliance.lua" and "ZygorGuidesHorde.lua"?

How do you tell if the new verson Zygor guides has been activated? I have downloaded this several times, I have much problems with a box that says "replace old version", I say yes and nothing after that. But if i go into my interface addons, it says 2/22/09??

Have you tried to un-install all of the Cartographer and Zygor folders in your WoW/Interface/Addons directory and then also remove any Cartographer and Zygor lua files from inside the WoW/WTF directory and it's sub-directories? Most times doing this and then installing fresh will fix most installation problems.

To know if you have the new version installed the simplest way is if you see a really nice and fancy looking guide window. The old one was a lot more bland.

Cabby,
Thanks for the instructions, but I have no clue how to accomplish the suggestions you made. Unfortunately, this guide has been consistantly hard for me to update. Do I have to call "geek squad" and pay 100$ everytime I need to update Zygor guides?

The auto-installers (the .exe files) should automatically install into the proper directories. An easy way to uninstall would be to go into the WoW/Interface/AddOns directory and deleting any folders that have Cartographer or Zygor in the names. After you do that run the auto-installer and you'll definitely have the latest version then, as long as you've downloaded the most recent auto-installer.

You will not see Cartographer, ZygorGuidesViewer, ZygorGuidesAlliance (or ZygorGuidesHorde). You will only see Cartogrpaher, ZygorGuidesViewer, and ZygorTalentAdvisor in your addon list. Our guides don't load as addons anymore.

When you login to the game, hover your mouse over the title bar. A gear will spin out of the right side, click the button on the gear. This will allow you to select which guide you want to load.

I am too scared to delete files. Now you say we don't need winrar? so how do I get rid of it? It is that program that I can never get to 'unzip" when trying to install new patches.

I have vista, I just need installation step by step instructions, please.

thanks

Hello snowwoww,

Do you have Windows Messanger (MSN) ? I can remotely assist you with the installation of the guides if you'd like. Otherwise, follow these instructions step by step - http://www.zygorguides.com/members/support.php - And you should be on your way!

Installation is simple. Go to the Members Area, click the link under product downloads, click the first Download Now button and run the auto-installer. It will install the guide for you and you should be good to go.

I think Snowwoww has a couple of things going on:

1. Winrar has become assciated as the default frogram for archive files (.zip is what is giving problems).

2. She talks about "updating" her guide. This means that she probably ran it when it did show up in the Add Ons area of WOW and is probably disabled as out of date.

Sonwwoww, go to start>control panel>programs and click the link to uninstall programs, find WInrar in the list of installed programs and remove (uninstall it). This should reset your .zip association back to Windows default.

Then, assuming you ran the latest Zygor installer, check the bottom of your Add Ons List list on the Wow login screen, you should see Zygor Guides Viewer and Zygor Talent Advisor. Make sure they are both enabled.

Hope this helps. :)
