Bug Reporting
AddOn Bug Reporting Guidelines:
Please follow these instructions in order for us to be able to address addon issues quickly and keep you happy.
These rules apply to bugs and addon errors, such as:
- Lua errors appearing, with Zygor-something in them,
- Talent Advisor suggesting wrong talents, not recognizing your pets, displaying warning even when you're following its suggestions, or not working at all,
- Guide Viewer not detecting quest objectives, not auto-completing steps, not detecting current map zone, not displaying any waypoint arrows, or not working at all,
They do not apply to guide content errors, such as NPCs not being where they're supposed to be, or not offering the quests they should offer.
So, you've found an addon bug. Let's kill it!
1. Describe what happened in detail.
Describe what happened and what did the error cause. The better you describe it, the bigger the chance we'll find it and fix it. Descriptions like "I clicked a talent button in my talent window and a Lua error popped up," or "I wanted to move the guide window, I clicked and dragged it, but it stuck to my mouse and wouldn't let go!" are good. Descriptions like "There was a big red error, but I panicked and reset my machine. Help me now," or "The addon doesn't work. (end of post.)" are bad.
2. Did a LUA error pop up?
This is very, very important, maybe even the most important question of all. If a Lua error appeared, then you must either:
- copy the message,
- or make a screenshot,
- or get a picture of it using your cellphone,
- or write it down with a pencil on a piece of paper, oldschool-style.
No, no, don't laugh, this is serious. If a Lua error appeared, and you can't tell us what it was, then there is almost no way we will find out what went wrong. So note those errors any way you can.
Even better - if you think there was no Lua error, check it again. Reports that turn out to have had Lua errors, which you forgot or didn't pay attention to, waste a lot of our time - while you still have the bug.
Important: sometimes there is more than one error. If there are several errors starting with Zygor-something, then write them all down. Or, at least, say, three. More are probably just aftershocks of the first one or two.
3. Give us some more details.
- What exactly did you do when the error happened?
- What class were you playing?
- Where were you?
- Hunters: What pet type did you have? Was it present or not?
- If you can, try to do something similar to what caused the error. Try it on a different character, and/or a different faction. Try to work around it. Try to find something that seemed like it should also cause the same error, but didn't. Or did, while it seemed like it shouldn't. All such information is very, very helpful.
4. Get an in-game Bug Report.
Both Zygor Guides Viewer and Zygor Talent Advisor have a built-in bug report generation feature. Sometimes these reports will tell us stuff you forgot or didn't notice. To create a report, follow these easy steps:
- Open your ESC-menu, click Interface.

- Click the AddOns tab to enter addon configuration,
- Click Zygor Guides Viewer or Zygor Talent Advisor..
- There should be a big red button at the bottom of the right-hand configuration panel. Click it.

- If a report box appeared, press Ctrl+C (Strng+C on German keyboards, Option+C on Macs, probably) to copy the text.

You don't have to email it, though, it's enough to paste it into your bug report post here.
Bug report form
If you have trouble memorizing all that, here's a sample bug report form. Copy it and paste into your new post.
