lockpicking ?

Now that my rogue is getting up there in lock pick do I just keep lock picking boxes & locks to gain levels? Or am I missing something that needs to be done

Just wondering here, I just got my rogue to 80 the other day and found that I no longer needed to level my lockpicking as I leveled, it automatically advanced for me by 5 each time I dinged.. is this new?

Yes, that's new. You lockpicking ability will now be 5 times your level without having to level it by picking locks.

Well that just saved alot of mid-level rogues many future hours of tedious work!

Next thing you know, first-aid, cooking and fishing will auto-advance as well... I'm waiting... lol

Well, those 3, and soon Archeology, are actually secondary professions that any class can do so I doubt that it will work that way for them. Lockpicking is sort of an inate ability that only Rogues can do so I guess it sort of makes sense. However, I must admit that I enjoyed going out and finding lockboxes to pick to raise my lockpicking at times but it will save time now. Gone are the days that an 80 Rogue who never bothered to level their lockpicking has to ask one of us lower level minions to pick their boxes. Though I never made a good living picking boxes, I suspect that I'll never be able to get a nice tip for doing so now.

Is there no guide to help level lock picking to level 500?

Yes, this is the Leveling guide. Lockpicking skill level is based on your character level. The skill is level x 5 (if I remember correctly) which means for 500 skill you need to be level 100. The skill is gained automatically when you level so if you're level 20 (100 skill) when you turn 21 you will automatically be 105 skill.
