As the title says.. When can we exspect you version of the tourgide version

As promised, TourGuide has been made available for public download again on WoWInterface. Zygor Guides still owns the full rights to TourGuide and intends to implement many features into our guide that are derivatives of TourGuide (such as an ultra minimalist mode).

Note: Any unauthorized distribution of TourGuide on any website other than those we have given permission to (ZygorGuides.com, WoWInterface, and Curse.com), is strictly prohibited.

They probably never will. What we will most likely do is implement features similar to TourGuide into our viewer (these will be optional of course). Understand that even to make an addon that is "like" TourGuide one must own the rights to the original work.

So then why pay for or what ever you did to get the rights to Tourguide if you really dont plan on using it at all. I am sure based no how good your In-Game Guide AddOn looks I am sure you could come up with a mini version option (like Winamp does with its product). Just seems pointless to have the rights to Tourguide.

It was part of the reply answer from Zygor.

So to make the "optional" function of Zygors future guide update to work, he "must own the rights to the original work."

Not really. My reasoning for saying that is that there are so many ways the AddOn could be created with a Mini version. I like the way the In-Game Guide looks and if it was able to show only 1 line. Again take Winamp for example. Did Tourguide ask for permission from Winamp to do make the AddOn like they did. No because it is not the same. Also look at music. There are a limited amount of musical notes out there that ppl are able to use to make different songs that are not like any others and there is no legal rights to the notes. Just what they did with it. Don't get me wrong. I like the way Tourguide looks and no disrespect to the creater of Tourguide. But I am sure Zygor could come up with a sleek looking Mini Version of their guide without purchasing the rights to someone elses AddOn. That is just my opinion. Thnx for the response.

Well, the only difference with your Winamp example and our situation is that TourGuide is a leveling addon, and so is our addon. So, they are much more alike than Winamp and TourGuide are. That's the reason we had to go that route. And at any rate, even if we could have side-stepped Tekkub and not paid him for his idea, that doesn't sit well with us. We like to do things legally and morally correct.

Groups or individuals out there have their only music but I dont see every one of them coming up with their own way to get it out there. They all put them on records, Cassette Tapes, CD, etc. Don't get me wrong I do like your guide and it is faster since I do not have to Accept, Turn in and pick up the next quest. I guess I just do not understand.

No worries. The difference in your example is that there is no law that only one specific person can put songs on a cd and sell them. So, a similar comparison would be that there is no law that only one specific person can make WoW guides and sell them on a website. A website is a distribution format, much like a cd is for music. Does that make sense?

And yes, legally, nobody can make an addon that looks and functions (and even uses pieces of TourGuide's code) without having an official license document, or simply owning the full rights to TourGuide. The problem is *some* people choose to break the law. That's fine, for that there are consequences. We chose to not leave ourselves vulnerable to issues like that, so we simply purchased TourGuide, the same as anyone else could have done, had they chosen to go about their business legally and ethically.
