Names of quest mobs used to be in red now aggros names are in red....

before the stupid legion pre patch whenever mobs were in my quest list or something I needed to do for zygorguides they would come up with their name above them in red. now it only does this for aggros(which I assume is the WoW default) was there some feature or am I crazy? sorry wasn't exactly sure how to word this.

    Thanks,

    Slandaro

We never had a feature that would set the nameplates to show. Whatever was doing that was probably another addon.

Push V on your keyboard, see if that works. Its always been a key in wow, Push V and it puts nameplates up above head, also check your interface settings in wow too Its a feature you can have even without an addon

yes but before the legion patch it only showed them as red if they were a part of the quest I was doing. now its showing red on aggros only. not on quest mobs my son noticed the same exact thing pre legion it showed only the names of quest mobs in red post legion all aggros red nothing else red. more talking about the color than the name plate like I said its kinda hard to word what I'm referring to. hope this clarifies it a bit. its different now v was unfortunately the first thing I tried. thanks though

It's very possible Blizzard changed it. They may have had it that way before, It might not have been a bug, it could have been Blizzards doing...

quite possibly shame though it was convienant made it really easy to spot what I needed to kill for quests wonder if theres someway zygor could do this I know it seems like a silly feature since we get an arrow pointing to things but wandering things were a lot easier to see when their labled was red and they were part of my quests.

thanks a lot for the quick response though to zygor and you appreciate it

This kind of possible feature/suggestion is exactly why we created the Feedback section. http://www.zygorguides.com/members/feedback

This is the best place to post these kinds of suggestions as that is the first place we look for things like that.

It seems there's an option in WoW to revert the behaviour to what we had prior to 7.0.
                  Press ESC, then select "interface".
In the "game" section there should be a subsection "names", there the top right combobox "NPC names", the topmost option seems to do what you want.
The stupid thing is that you still can't turn nameplates on and off as before, V and SHIFT+V seem to have no effect anymore.

You should be able to still turn it off/on, it's just set to "auto" mode now so it only enables the nameplates based on the settings in Interface -> Names. You are correct, if you change the "NPC Names" option to "All NPCs" and check "Always Show Nameplates" then it'll show the nameplates even when you're not in combat.
It may seem narcissistic to link this, but it's awesome nonetheless.

Tho problem is that Blizzard messed up two options here, the option to show names above NPCs and the separate option to show the "nameplate" which is only the health bar unless I miss something there.

OK, if I turn on the option to always show nameplates I can switch the health bars on and off with V and SHIFT+V.
But that does not affect the NPC name. Those have to be activated separately and if I activate showing names on friendly units I have to go into the options to turn it off again.

In the past I used SHIFT+V often to quickly identify a friendly or neural NPC, now I either have to target him or go into the options.

Possibly a nameplate addon will help, then I can toggle health bar and NPC name with V and SHIFT+V and otherwise only turn on showing names on quest related NPCs.
