I have done that and tried a reinstall via the wrench

Try completely deleting the client from your computer and downloading it again.

If you're able to click the wrench then it sounds like the client is up and running again for you. Is this correct?

When you originally got the error what steps did you take to produce the error? Was the client already running? Did you attempt to install an update? Where did you see the error message exactly? Any information you can provide will help us diagnose the issue.
