I have noticed at times it is difficult to see the buy icon hovering over the items. It would be great to be able to customize the color to something far more obnoxious that would almost never conflict, or at least change it to a more high contrast icon when you know that it will be obscured, such as buying something brown/gold in color.

fwiw, if you have an image editor that can open .tga file, you can do this yourself. I know because I had the same problem as you. I opened up the file ZygorGuidesViewer/Skins/goldguideicons.tga and edited the giant $ sign on the left into a horrid red/white/green striped square with a solid black border... you just have to make sure you also edit the alpha channel, which controls the transparency.
Now I have an easy to spot solid square of colour on the items.
(then save a backup so you can replace it again after updates).
tl;dr yes please, a new easy to spot icon built in.
