I've been keeping track of all the small things that could be improved in Diablo 3

Thanks for that. We really appreciate everyone helping to provide constructive feedback, and rest assured we're taking a lot of it with us to meetings, design decisions, and many will be seen in not-to-distant patches.

I'm going to do my best to answer/address/comment on each of these points, and approach each as plainly and honestly as possible, so please bear with me.

      1) As a player, I want to have some sort of warning and/or confirmation box when I'm about to do something that will cause me to lose Nephalem Valor stacks so that I don't accidentally move or change an ability and lose my stacks.

Sounds reasonable. We're adding in an action bar lock which should help with that, but a confirmation sounds like a possible addition to that. I think we'd like to try to see if the action bar lock works well enough first.

      2) As an Auction House user, I want a checkbox for "buyout only" so that I don't have to use a janky work-around.

Us too! This change should already be in for the 1.0.3 patch.

      3) As an advanced player, I want the option to show numerical cooldowns on my abilities so that I can better time them.

We're really trying hard to avoid quickly bloating the game options, and since this would be an option, we're cautiously approaching it and a few other toggle/option requests. Short answer, probably not right now.

      4) As a player, I want to be able to move and resize the chat window so that I can put it where I want it.

We would love if this was possible too, and we're right now looking into making it happen. The issue is that our UI system was designed in a way that makes this a pretty steep technical challenge. The question right now is just when we'd be able to pull it off. Unlikely for any nearby patches.

      5) As a player, I want to be able to increase or decrease the font size in the chat window so that I can make it better for my monitor/resolution.

This change is in for patch 1.0.3! Yay.

      6) As a player, I want to see absorption effects on my health bar so that I can easily see and act on my remaining absorption shield.

We really want to avoid showing health numbers or effects on the health resource spheres, it's just a UI clutter issue we're really trying to fight right now. A lot of easy solutions are to pile more UI on top of things, and it tends to really snowball once it begins. We could look at other tells or effects for this, though.

      7) As a Wizard, I want to see a buff icon for "Magic Weapon" and "Familiar" so that I can know its current status.

We're adding a buff icon for Magic Weapon in 1.0.3. We don't intend to add one for Familiar as it's a physically visible object on your screen. Magic Weapon was actually impossible to tell if it was up in quite a few cases. We'll be continuing to watch skills and buff icons, though, as there could be some situations where we need to expose more.

      8) As a player, I want some way to retain my stacks of Nephalem Valor when I accidentally disconnect so that I don't feel terrible if I disconnect with a 5-stack before a boss.

We would love that too. Seriously. We're already in the process of determining how much work it would be, and as always it's a balance of priorities. I think this is a matter of not if, but when, and right now we're not sure when we could get it in.

      9) As a player, I want a way to disable lore/story text from showing up in the chat frame so that I don't have to always scroll after an in-game conversation.

This is actually already an option in-game! Sound -> Show Quest Dialog In-Chat (is what I believe it's called)

      10) As a player, I want to have my previous follower always automatically follow me whenever I start a new single-player session so that I don't forget and have to go back.

Good idea. We'll look into it.

      11) As an Auction House user, I would like to be able to repair my items from the auction house so that I can sell them without going in the game.

We're just changing it so you can sell damaged items in the next patch.

      12) As a Blacksmith, I want to see what tier an item is before I salvage it so I can know what materials to expect.

It’s something we’ve talked about, but no concrete plans at this time. There are potentially better issues to focus on first for crafting in general.

      13) As a player, I want my pets/minions to not attack invulnerable targets and instead focus on vulnerable targets so that I can kill things faster.

Yes! We're looking into how to pull this off. It's a bit tricky just due to how monster states work, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

      14) As a player, I want the experience bar to hide once I hit the maximum level so that it doesn't take up unnecessary screen space.

Our UI really isn't modular, so it'd be a lot of work just to save those few pixels. There's probably more important fish to fry at the moment.

      15) As a player, I want to see what difficulty my friends are playing so that I can know if I'll be interested in joining them.

We have some great social window and quick join improvements coming in 1.0.3, including showing the game difficulty they're in, who else is in the game with them, a bunch of just nice usability and UI changes, as well as making the quick join window smarter by limiting who is shown to you by level and difficulty.

      16) As a new player, I want to be made aware of "elective mode" once I've become familiar with the game so that I can learn about and try more advanced builds.

It's already shown through the loading tips, but we're looking to also add it as a tutorial tip that will show up whenever you begin a new difficulty from Nightmare-on.

      17) As a player, I want it so that only my accepted friends can autojoin my game so that I don't get surprised by "recent players" that aren't my friends while playing.

Huh, well, yeah that sounds like a reasonable request. We'll look into it.

      18) As an advanced player, I want the option to show numerical values around my health and power orbs so that I can make better decisions.

(see answer for number 6) I understand there's a desire to see more numbers exposed, but again we're really fighting UI and option bloat from all angles. I think a lot of additions are inevitable, but the game just came out 3 weeks ago and we're looking at a product where we'll be adding and tweaking for years and years.

      19) As an Auction House user, I want to see a detailed view about all steps in the buying/selling process so that I can know exactly what the status on my purchase is (ex: "XXX Gold paid for YYY item, (newline)YYY item received, (newline), YYY item sent to stash")

      I'll pass that along.

      20) As a player, I want the game to automatically hit my next-best-potion type when I'm out of my current potion type so that I don't have to reassign it during a long fight.

Yeah, we think there could be some 'smarts' added to the potion button too. It's on a wish list, we don't know when it's something we could prioritize into an update.

      21) As an Auction House user, I would like tooltips for damaged items to still show the item stats when looking at them from the sell menu so that I don't have to log into the game to see them (maybe just put "damaged" somewhere on the tooltip?).

I believe this is resolved with the ability to sell damaged items in the next patch.

      22) As an Auction House user, I want to be able to have ascending/descending orders by stat in the Auction House UI so that I can better find an item I want.

We're looking at a number of AH UI improvements; there's still a ways to go. The biggest issue is really adding more options when we're already running into space constraints, but that's our problem, and we're working on it.

      23) As a player, I want a "build saver" so that I can easily change between builds rather than trying to remember them.

We think that'd be cool too, it's something we've been considering for a while. We don't have it nailed down to begin working on it yet, though.

      24) As a player, I want integration between the website's "build saver" and an in-game build saver so that I can screw around with builds while not logged in.

Hah! That'd be cool. Probably on an extended wish list.

      25) As an advanced player, I want to be able to move, scale, or hide any UI element so that I can make the UI convey me information in a more customized fashion.

Our UI isn't modular, so this would be very difficult. We also don't intend for the UI to be customizable to the degree of... well certainly not World of Warcraft, but any options we add for UI customization would be along the lines of minor tweaks. I realize a lot of MMO's have very customizable UI's these days, and people really like that, but it's just not a focus of functionality for the game. We'd rather understand what improvements people would like, why, and try to tackle those specific issues.

      26) As a player, I would like some way to get Tomes of Jewelcrafting in Inferno that's not cumbersome so that I can combine my square gems without going back to Hell difficulty.

Ideally it's something you can help address through just throwing some gold at the auction house if you don't want to go back to Hell, but with commodities being down I realize that's not an option. Our preference would be to see if use of the AH helps you meet those needs by just buying what other players don't need. If not, we can look at some potential solutions.

        27) As a player, I want a "Detailed Breakdown" option that allows me to compare stats such as resistances, magic finding, etc. so that I can better analyze item choices.

We're planning to roll resistances into the defense comparison, and we'll be evaluating other comparisons case by case. We know people really like the convenience of quick +/- red/green comparisons, but they're not always as informative as they're taken to be. In any case we're approaching additions cautiously.

        28) As a player, I want a private chat UI element so that it will be easier for me to hold multiple private conversations at once.

Similar to question number 4 it's not something we're opposed to, but isn't easily pulled off due to how our UI works. We do want to improve the chat UI though, absolutely.

        29) As a player, I want to be able to have a private chat room so that me and my friends can chat even if we're in different Diablo sessions.

Customizable/private chat channels, yes, it's something that's been on our list.

        30) As an advanced Auction House user, I want a more complex query interface with "OR"/"AND" for stats so that I can better find an item I want to buy.

These are called boolean search terms, right? It's an interesting proposition. To parrot my previous AH-related responses, there's a lot of search improvements to be made.

        31) As an Auction House user, I want to be able to see the stats of items that I've sold so that I can refer to previous sales when determining prices for new sales.

I can see how that could be useful.

        32) As a ranged player, I want invulnerable minions to not block projectiles so that I can actually kill an invulnerable minion pack. (More of an opinionated one :-P)

Yeah, I mean, that's kind of just an issue of placement and projectile aim. We think Invulnerable enemies are a bit ridiculous right now anyway, but I wouldn't say this suggestion is probably needed if we just make some overall changes to them.

        33) As a player, I want to be able to disable companion conversations so that I'm not annoyed hearing them all the time.

        GLORIOUS!

        We're well aware.

        34) As a max level player, I want an option to skip all cutscenes/dialogue so that I don't have to constantly press the spacebar to advance in the current game flow.

If you hit Esc during any 'forced' conversations, cutscenes, etc. you can skip right through them. We think it works pretty well. I'd be open to hearing any specific issues it's causing, though.

        35) As a player, I do not want my followers to initiate combat with elite, rare, or treasure goblins so that I can have more time to prepare to fight them.
We have some AI tweaks to do with followers, we know this can get pretty annoying (or deadly).

PHEW! Well, again, thanks for compiling that, thanks to everyone for your continued feedback. There's a lot here we're already aware of, working on, or have already implemented in a patch, and I realize there are a fair amount of other concerns not covered here that are also being addressed. We'll have some additional information on upcoming patches and improvements in the weeks ahead. Keep cool.

I personally think buying an item on the AH that is damaged is a major annoyance.

Ah yes! Right so when you buy it, it's repaired for you.

Last month we gave you a glimpse into how we were taking in initial feedback on the game, and ideas for some potential system changes we could make. Today we wanted to follow up and provide concrete info on some of the changes we’ve been working on, and give everyone a heads up before the 1.0.3 patch hits later this month.
              Bridging the Inferno Item Gap
The ilvl (item level) of an item determines the statistical budget for its power. The way the game is currently set up in Inferno, Act I drops ilvl 61 gear and below, Act II drops ilvl 62 gear and below, and Act III and IV drop ilvl 63 and below.
Unfortunately this has caused two main issues. The first is players who find an Act too difficult feel compelled to use the auction house in order to progress. The second is that certain classes, skills, and play styles are less gear dependent than others, so although great items are making their way into the game economy, people feel pigeonholed into a handful of viable strategies. For a lot of people they would rather do something frustrating or boring in Inferno Act IV (such as having Tyrael fight for them or breaking vases) for a chance at a "top-tier" upgrade, rather than fight hordes of monsters in Inferno Act I.
We’re shifting to a philosophy where the best items in the game can drop from many different places, so a wider variety of play styles are viable. If you would rather chain-pull elite packs in Act I than 3 minute cat-and-mouse in Act IV, we'd like you to be able to do that and know you can still find the best items in the game.
Nothing would explain it as well as just sharing the intended drop rates coming in the next patch, so here they are. Note that the drop rates vary slightly by item type; the table below represents an approximate aggregated rate of all item types:
              New drop rates for 1.0.3
              9 % 18% 19% 24%
              2% 8% 12% 16%
              0% 2% 4% 8%
As you can see, players who would rather murder monsters 4x as fast in Inferno Act I can do so knowing they have a chance at amazing items, and players who want a challenge can kill in Acts III and IV in Inferno and be rewarded with a higher drop rate.
              You Keep Using That Word

As previously mentioned, we’re going to be reviewing Legendary items in a future patch. Legendaries won’t change in 1.0.3, but it’s still something we’re actively working on. When we’re done, high level Legendaries should be flat out better than blue items, they’ll carry a good amount of power with them, and they should also be distinctive or memorable in the benefits they provide. We’ll be able to share more information on the specific changes we’re making after 1.0.3 launches.
              The Nephalem Difference

It’s no secret that our goal for the end-game item hunt is players hunting monsters packs, building to five stacks of Nephalem Valor, and then killing a boss. While we’re seeing a lot of that occurring, what we’re missing is people feeling like it’s worthwhile to continue onward after killing a boss.
To help hit that goal we’re lowering the number of guaranteed Rare items on bosses when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor from two guaranteed Rares to one guaranteed Rare (you still have a very good chance at multiple rares, it's just no longer guaranteed). In exchange, all champion and rare packs will now drop a bonus guaranteed Rare item when you have your full five stacks of Nephalem Valor. The change benefits players with more overall drops, and a reason to push to continue progressing.
              You Into the Group Thing?

We’re removing the bonus monster damage per additional player in a coop game. Our design goal is for players who prefer to play solo to be able to play solo, and players who prefer to play in groups to be able to play in a group. We feel the bonus monster damage per additional player is one of the biggest inhibitors to wanting to play with your friends.
In a perfect world, single player and co-op would be absolutely equal, but that’s not attainable when you consider item properties such as “Life on Kill” or skills such as Archon which simply scale better when you are solo. Since the variety and breadth of game mechanics essentially dictate that solo vs. group play will never be 100% equal, our goal is to make them as close as possible but err on the side of coop in cases where we need to make adjustments. The inherent logistical requirements when forming up with other players and attempting to work together effectively warrants some added benefits.
I'm Rebur, Tadia, or Judianna most games.

                Oh Yeah!

Inferno balance right now has a difficulty gap in which Act I feels about right, but Act II feels like trying to bust through a brick wall. In patch 1.0.3 we’re going to be lowering that wall by adjusting the damage and health of monsters in Inferno Act II, III and IV. We feel like Act I Inferno is in a pretty good place.
Our design goal with Acts II, III and IV is to keep them challenging, but smooth the difficulty ramp out a bit. If a monk or barbarian is geared well enough that they can use a heavily offensive build and murder everything in Act I, they should be able to swap to a more defensive build and do okay in Act II. As they gear up they can begin adjusting back to becoming offensive in Act II, at which point they can jump into Act III with a focus on defense, and so on. Difficulty certainly ties into itemization, encounter and enemy tuning, and class balance, and all of these things together are going to paint a more reasonable difficulty curve as you hit Inferno in 1.0.3.
                Paying for Your Mistakes

Current repair costs at level 60 are barely noticeable, and because of that we see a lot of people wonder if “graveyard zerging” tough enemies or “chain rezzing allies on a boss” is intended gameplay – it definitely is not. To help solve the issue we evaluated a number of new death mechanics, such as just allowing the resurrection timer to increase even higher, disallowing resurrection during boss fights, or putting a debuff on you when you resurrect (such as reduced combat effectiveness).
Ultimately we felt that increasing repair costs was the best solution that preserves the fast paced style of the game. Repair costs on level 60 items are going to go up a lot. Our goal is the next time a player is graveyard zerging a boss, it should occur to them that “this is probably not an efficient way to go about things”. We’re currently evaluating repair costs between 4x and 6x their current values.
In the face of increasing costs, we recommend listening to the Hardcore players out there as they probably have some helpful advice on how to minimize repair costs. Following this change zerging a boss will still be possible, but our intent is that it won’t be optimal, and players who are seeking to be as efficient as possible will adjust their item hunting routes accordingly.
                Whoa, Whoa, Nice Shootin’ Tex
We’re fixing a number of bugs with Attack Speed, mainly related to the stat not working on some items, but we’ve also decided we need to reduce the effectiveness of Increased Attack Speed overall. Many players have commented that Increased Attack Speed is such a dominant stat they feel it’s required. While we don’t have an issue with there being important stats, Increased Attack Speed in particular has secondary effects on mobility in combat, resource generation and resource consumption. We want there to be options and considerations for how you gear up, and one uber trump-everything stat can really work against choice and options.
There are two different solutions we’re considering to reduce the effectiveness of Increased Attack Speed. The first is to simply reduce the value on all the items to their desired values. In general our desire is to never change items as that makes them feel less concrete, but the upside is you would still be able to look at an item and know exactly what you are getting. The other approach is to change the formula used for attack speed aggregation so that stacking attack speed from multiple slots suffers from diminishing returns. The downside of that approach is that it introduces yet another hidden modifier on an item property (and many people dislike hidden modifiers), and complicates the already difficult decision of item gearing.
We’re currently leaning toward the first solution, to simply reduce the value on items, but we’d be interested to read people’s thoughts on the problem.
                Just Three Two Easy Payments

We previously hinted that Blacksmith and Jeweler costs are coming down, and overall it will be far more reasonable to train them up and craft items. The most dramatic reduction is on the combine costs for tier 2-8 gems.
                3 Chipped + 500 gold 2 Chipped + 10 gold
                3 Flawed + 750 gold 2 Flawed + 25 gold
                3 Normal + 1250 gold 2 Normal + 40 gold
                3 Flawless + 2000 gold + 1 Page 2 Flawless + 55 gold + 1 Page
                3 Perfect + 3500 gold + 2 Pages 2 Perfect + 70 gold + 2 Pages
                3 Radiant + 7500 gold + 1 Tome 2 Radiant + 85 gold + 1 Tome
                3 Square + 20,000 gold + 2 Tomes 2 square + 100 gold + 2 Tomes
The gem combine costs for Perfect Square and above will remain unchanged.

                  Nerf Them, Buff Me

Class tuning is not a major focus for 1.0.3. There will be a small number of skills changes, but for the most part we want people to continue experimenting and enjoy their skills for a while. Our goal was and continues to be build diversity, and though we see quite a bit of build diversity, we think we can do much better. Class tuning will be an ongoing process, and we’re targeting the 1.1 patch for most class tweaks, with a focus on punching build diversity up a few more notches.
                  But What About…

While these are a few of the larger systems adjustments we’re making, the 1.0.3 patch will include many fixes, quality of life enhancements, Auction House improvements, and other changes. We hope you look forward to the patch as much as we do getting it out there, and again we appreciate your continued feedback. See you in-game!

In preparation for the upcoming launch of the real-money auction house, we will be updating the Diablo® III

                    Auction House
                    Terms of Use and

                    Battle.net Terms of Use
to cover some key changes related to the account-security measures required to use Battle.net Balance. Later today, the following updates will be made to the Terms of Use available on our website, and when the real-money auction house goes live, all players will be asked to re-read and accept these changes the next time they play Diablo III.

                    Battle.net Balance and Authenticator Update
With the introduction of the real-money auction house, account security will become more important than ever. To help ensure that players have a positive experience when using the real-money auction house, we’ve made some adjustments to how players can use and access their Battle.net Balance.

Starting today, in order to use
Battle.net Balance, players will be required to have a Battle.net Authenticator or Battle.net Mobile Authenticator attached to their Battle.net account. For clarity, this means you’ll need to have an Authenticator to add to your balance via Battle.net Account Management or to send the proceeds of your real-money auction house sales to your Battle.net Balance.

Please note that players who previously added Battle.net Balance to their account prior to this change will be able to use it to make
eligible purchases on Battle.net and in the auction house without attaching an Authenticator. However, an Authenticator will be required to add to your balance in the future, as explained above.

While we understand that this may be an inconvenience for some players, we want to ensure that players feel confident when using Battle.net Balance to make auction house transactions.

You can learn more about the Battle.net Authenticator, Battle.net Mobile Authenticator, and other account security information by clicking

                        Patch 1.0.2c Tomorrow
It looks like patch 1.0.2.9991 should be out Tomorrow. As always it should be noted this is not Patch 1.0.3 (which is scheduled for later this month). It looks like this patch was aimed at the RMAH changes we saw in
the ToS Update along with a few bug fixes. You can view the official patch notes below along with the string changes below that.

Important: It looks like this patch will fix the Achievement issues from day 1.

                        • Achievements have been granted to players who previously completed their objectives, but were not correctly awarded completion credit.

Very little string changes this time around. Most of the strings simply reflect the Tos Update that was posted.

We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Diablo III starting tomorrow (6/12) at 5:00 a.m. PDT in order to deploy patch 1.0.2c. We anticipate that maintenance will conclude and that all services will be available at approximately 11:00 a.m. PDT. Patch notes are available below.

Important: Please note that you will not be prompted to download patch 1.0.2c until the patch is live in your home region. If you are logging in from a European or Asian client, you will need to wait for this patch to release in that region before it can be installed. Additionally, if your home region is the Americas, you will be unable to log into Europe or Asia using Global Play after patch 1.0.2c is live until those regions have also patched.

For reference, here are the scheduled maintenance times for each region:

                            The Americas: 5:00 a.m. PDT to 11:00 a.m. PDT
                            Asia: 1:00 p.m. PDT to 4:00 p.m. PDT

We recently issued a round of account suspensions and bans to several thousand Diablo® III players who were in violation of the Battle.net® Terms of Use for cheating and/or using botting or hacking programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair play that’s essential to everyone’s enjoyment of the game, botting, hacking, and other such exploitive behavior can contribute to stability and performance issues with the Battle.net service. As always, maintaining a stable, safe, and fun online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we'll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.

In preparation for the launch of the real-money auction house, we wanted to take a moment to remind players of some important information regarding how the auction house will work and what to expect when using it once it's available in your region.

Account Security and Using the Real-Money Auction House

If you intend to use either Battle.net® Balance or PayPal™ to buy and sell items on the Diablo® III real-money auction house, there are a few important security measures you'll need to have in place in order to access certain auction house features. We highly recommend that you set up your Battle.net Balance or PayPal account ahead of time, so you'll be ready to use the real-money auction house once it's live.
                                • Battle.net Balance: Players who wish to use Battle.net Balance to buy and sell items will need to attach a physical Battle.net Authenticator orBattle.net Mobile Authenticator app (free for iPhone, iPod touch, and Android) to their Battle.net account. Specifically, an Authenticator is required in order to charge up your Battle.net Balance through Battle.net account management or to select Battle.net Balance as the destination for your auction proceeds.
                                • PayPal: Players who wish to use PayPal (only available in certain regions/currencies) to buy items or receive the proceeds of their auctions will need to sign up for our Battle.net SMS Protect service. With Battle.net SMS Protect, you'll occasionally receive a text message on your mobile phone when making PayPal-related transactions; this message contains a code that you must then enter to proceed with your transaction.
Even if you don't plan on using the real-money auction house, we still encourage everyone to consider adding these extra layers of protection on their Battle.net account.

Note: Please keep in mind that players will be able to purchase items on the real-money auction house with other forms of payment, including major credit cards, that do not require the use of an Authenticator or Battle.net SMS Protect. Additional payment options are listed
here. If you wish to sell items, however, and receive the proceeds of those sales, you will need to use either Battle.net Balance or PayPal.

Region Auction Houses and Global Play

As we've stated before, players will only have access to the real-money auction house while playing in their home game region(The Americas, Europe, or Asia), and characters created outside of your home region will not be able to buy, sell, or use items from any real-money auction house. Your home game region, along with which real-money auction houses you have access to, are determined by the country of residence registered to your Battle.net® account. By default, Battle.net will automatically determine the most appropriate real-money auction house for you, but players in some regions may be able to access auction houses for additional currencies in their region via the in-game Options menu.

                                Item Delivery and "Processing" Purchases

Occasionally, players may have to wait for a period of time before an item they purchased in the real-money auction house arrives in their "Completed" tab. While we expect the majority of real-money auction house purchases to be delivered to buyers immediately, in some circumstances, we will need to hold items for delivery while we conduct a review of the transaction. Held items will show as "Processing" until the review is complete.

Commodities on the Real-Money Auction House

As we prepare to launch the real-money auction house, we want to make sure that commodity trading (recently re-enabled in the gold auction house) remains quick, stable, and reliable. To that end, it's possible that the real-money auction house will launch with equipment trading only (i.e. weapons, armor, and other such gear) and commodities would come online at a later date. The team is hard at work getting commodities ready for trading in the real-world auction house, and in the event it doesn't launch with the real-money auction house, our goal is to activate this feature as soon as is feasible.
