    SW: The Old Republic

Probably premature but I'd like to strongly encourage Zygor to develop a quest guide for Star Wars, the old republic. You have the name and while the system may be very different, *someone* is going to do it!

I, for one, am not going to do the whole kung-fu panda thing.

This has already been suggested. Next time do a search m'friend.

Im not sure what their current policy is on 3rd party addons right now, so its hard to say if a guide can even be made for this. It may end up being like Rift where addons were not permitted, then allowed later on after release.
Would be nice to have Zygor's quality guide in another MMO though.
Keep looking in here to see if there are any changes.

      Cheers.

Currently the 'official' policy on this is, that another game would need to have a robust UI API for addon creation like WoW does to be considered for having Zygor make a guide for it.

Now after talking to Zygor about this I found out that this does not mean that if a game does very well and becomes a juggernaut like WoW did that the game would be completely ignored if it doesn't have an addon API.

There have been games that have been good and were thought to do great such as Rift that everyone was trying to say would kill WoW. Rift has floundered pretty quickly because too many people realized it was just another WoW clone. Now SWTOR does not appear in any way to be another WoW clone and after being in the final beta weekend for it I personally have high hopes for it's success. Right now Zygor is watching these other games to see if they warrant any attention but the games themselves have to thrive and grow to garner a 2nd glance.

I played the weekend Beta, and had higher expectation, not calling it a WoW clone is an understatement. A lot of the gameplay, interface and basic concept is borrowed a lot from WoW.

Personally I hope SWTOR crash and burn or become mediocre just like all other Bioware games. Their standard of voice interaction with every NPC is a huge commitment that would slow down expansions to the game, I just don't see how they can keep that up long term especially when they don't have enough subscribers.

Star Wars universe have its fans but it lacks the appeal for a wide audience.

I was extremely put off by the available Race choice. http://www.wikiswtor.com/Playable_species

In WoW you get an awesome array of Races that is completely different from one and another in all different shape, size and background.

In SWToR most of the race consist of Human like races with different skin color... to me they are ugly and boring (and I'm not picky), can't we at least get the ewok or the yodas. I know this is not Bioware's fault because they have to stay true to the Star War universe and I don't know if there is such thing as a jedi ewok or whatever.

Character looks matters. Just ask any women or children to which race they would play... a Twi’lek or Pandas? or any other Star Wars Race vs WoW Race for that matter. I'm sure WoW would win most of the votes.

Why do women or children subscribers have anything to do with it? Well if they refuse to play SW but they would WoW then you will likely play WoW and drop SW just so your can play together more often.

MoP is Blizzard answer to SWToR, they are after our Women and Children which is still an untapped market for MMOs and I think is a good move.

Also if you look at the Talent tree in torhead.com you can see that Bioware is 7 years behind WoW in terms of creativity with the Talent tree which is filled with boring +1% to stat per point for most of the talent tree.

SWToR have some good concept but imo WoW is still lightyears ahead by appealing to a wider audience, Bioware need to step it up fast.

Just want to point out to you that WoW is an EQ clone that managed to actually do better than EQ because WoW dumbed down the learning curve and made it much easier to play. A lot of the gameplay, interface and basic concept is borrowed from EQ.

Yea, a lot was borrowed from EQ but it was dumbed down for the normal humans as well as made so much easier to play. I was honestly pissed when I first played WoW and noticed that I didn't lose XP when I died. That alone makes the game too easy but then again, my first MMO was EQ. I adapted to it's learning curve rather quickly and in turn, prospered. I may go back to EQ, not sure just yet.

I did searches for SWTOR and the old republic and didn't see this topic.

I haven't really been a part of an MMORPG until WoW but after 3 years, I feel exhausted by it and want something new and different. I'm definitely going to try SWTOR. I think a star wars based mmorpg is a pretty neat idea

If you like Story and choices like Mass Effect or Dragon Age then you will like it. I personally feel it's going to be a epic game. But the question is can they do expansions at least on a WoW schedule? Maybe. There is no way they can do what Rift is doing on content releases but that is because Trion made the engine for Rift and didn't go out and buy one like Bioware did. If they can't at least keep to the WoW Expansion schedule then it won't last long.

Rumor is the game cost at least 300 million to make. Personally that to me is to much. I more like 150-200 million. Speculation is by 6 month mark SWTOR will have made 80 million profit and by the end of 2012 have made 150 million profit.

Also the policy on AddOns so far is that not until sometime after release. If they do like Rift did they will have AddOns up and running 6-7 months after release. But even Rift doesn't have the API code in the library yet for Zygor to make a guide for it yet. They are just now adding where you can mess with bags and sort whats in them. So it will probably be another 6 months to a year before even Rift will have it where Zygor could make a guide for it if he wanted to.

Why stopped there, why not go back further to Ultimate Online or any other RPGs,
WoW sets the standard and is the benchmark for all MMO not EQ.

I stopped at EQ for a reason. While technically Meridian 59 was the first MMORPG as the term is used today, who here will have really ever heard of it or remember it? Launched almost simultaneously with Meridian 59 was an offering called The Realm Online, again who here will really have heard of it or remember it? After that we have Ultima Online, which I personally don't consider an MMORPG because to me all of the crappy 2.5D offerings are nothing more than something I could play on an old Sega system. Then came EQ which popularized MMORPGs and allowed titles like WoW to actually have a market today. Right now the only benchmarks WoW is setting are how easy they can make game play be (thus lowering the IQ of millions of people at once) and how many subscribers they can lose in a year's time.

My initial point was that everyone always says a new game is a WoW clone but few think about the fact that WoW is a clone itself. Now if you really want me to use the 'Way Back Time Machine' then all RPGs of any kind today are just cheap rip-offs of D&D, which I did in fact play before AD&D was released.

Haha... MUDs... don't make me laugh. Those were the original (online) D&D rip-offs.

Ok, you win the MMORPG nerd award, I am impress, teach me more.

You said that the SWTOR is not another WoW Clone

I said that is an understatement.

Your respond to that is WoW is a clone of EQ completely changing the topic...

and now we get a history lesson, thank you!

Are we talking about SWTOR being a WoW Clone ?

or WoW being an EQ > UO (Wait that doesn't count) > Meridian 59 > D&D clone?
